“Don’t have a best friend that’s a girl” — this was the advice from my older cousin. I didn’t take it. Because he followed with, “friends don’t f*ck friends. And you’ll want to f*ck her.”

It was terrible advice.

My cousin should’ve told me that being best friends with Baylee Wright — since she was twelve — would be the best and worst decision of my life.

He should have told me to protect her from what was coming.

He should have told me that when a darkness crawled towards us, there’d be no safety net.

Now I’ve signed back on to the same Vegas acrobatic show as Baylee, working together for the first time in years. And she tells me that she’s having trouble in a certain “area” of her life — because of our past.

“You can help me fix it,” she says.

And then she hands me a list.

About Krista & Becca Ritchie

Krista & Becca Ritchie are New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors and identical twins—one a science nerd, the other a comic book geek—but with their shared passion for writing, they combined their mental powers as kids and have never stopped telling stories. Now in their early twenties, they write about other twenty-somethings navigating through life, college, and romance. They love superheroes, flawed characters, and soul mate love.

They are the New Adult authors of the Addicted series and Calloway Sisters spin-off series, and you can find them on almost every social media, frolicking around like wannabe unicorns.

EXCERPT:

When I was eleven, he told me that fucking anyone who works for AE is like swimming in a “polluted pussy ocean”—his ineloquent way of saying: extremely dangerous. And in some cases for our careers, fatal.

I didn’t listen to his advice.

I usually don’t.

I straighten off the door frame. “Speaking of that other roommate…” I can’t even say her name. I think of B. Wright and all of my muscles tense.

SO MUCH LOVE for Infini by Krista & Becca Ritchie!

“Some love is infinite.”

Infini by Krista & Becca Ritchie – 5 HUGE Stars

6c050-goodreads-button

I am just so overwhelmed with the emotions and angst and gut wrenching love this book portrayed.

Krista & Becca Ritchie depict a forbidden and tragic love story that is interwoven with their signature ensemble casts and touching family dynamics.

For those who haven’t read Amour Amour – Luka is part of the Kotova family, who all perform in various circus acts in Vegas run by the same corporate company. He’s a kleptomaniac among many other issues, but is the sweetest, most caring, and empathetic loving person to those he cares about.

21840610._SY540_.jpg

Baylee is also apart of one of the Vegas acts, and up until their teen years her and Luka were completely in love and inseparable.

b44b1648-ed2f-4509-8c7c-566fb4cfceac_zpslfjjlxks

Something (which I won’t say) causes them to separate and not speak for years until they learn they’ll soon be starring in the same show.

“I won’t talk to her. I won’t look at her.” And maybe, one day, I’ll forget what our love felt like. And I’ll finally stop holding on.

My favorite things about Infini:

1. LUKA AND BAYLEE. My god these two together are quite possibly the cutest things to grace this earth.

2. Literally anytime Luka smiled at Baylee. Every time he mouthed he loved her. Or said I love you. Or spoke. Or breathed. Just…..Luka.

“Our chests rise at the same time, and in a crowd full of people, with all eyes on me, I mouth, I love you.”

You hear that? That’s the sound of me sobbing.

“If sex is nowhere for you, what’s somewhere?” She wonders.
“Emotion. Love.” I stare straight into her. “You.”

21840600.gif

Literally just take me now I can’t be on earth anymore.

“All I know is what I feel. And I’m in love with you, Bay. Right now. Not just five years ago – but here, today. Yesterday. Tomorrow. It’s forever kind of love, and I’m not letting go. I can’t let go.”

I can’t feel my heart anymore. Do I even have one? NOPE – don’t think so. These two have stolen it.

2. The ANGST. HOLY SHIT. THE ANGST. It’s like Krista & Becca sat down and pondered “How can we torture the shit out of our readers in the best way? Oh we know!” and *poof* Infini was born.

3. Camila and Katya talking about Ryke Meadows, the talk about vampire dick, Dimitri’s small wiener, and Connor Cobalt’s love for BDSM.

4. Any mention of Timo and John. Can we just acknowledge the low key argumentative flirting they do that’s reminiscent of Connor and Rose? John calling Timo babe ?

*inhale. exhale. Don’t fangirl. Don’t fangirl*

AHK-EI€!Ag$7aHAAA@!! They’re so fucking cute!

5. The love between this family. So many scenes in here had me sniffling and tearing up. What a talent Krista & Becca possess – to have the reader quite literally feel the love and loyalty between the characters just from their words alone. I feared my heart would actually burst each time Nik or Timo or Luka or Katya shared a loving scene. The raw emotions in this book will grip you and not let go.

6. Camila and Dimitri are everything I never knew I needed. If they get a book (please let them get a book), I will be ECSTATIC. (And John and Timo. PLEASE!)

This book. This book will make you believe in soulmates. This was nothing like I was expecting and even more than I had hoped. For those who’ve read Amour Amour, this definitely takes on a different tone. The angst and emotion leap from the pages. A must read for Krista & Becca’s fans and anyone who enjoys a gut wrenching romance. I can’t wait for more from this universe and am anxiously waiting for even the slightest detail on the next book!

*Though Infini is set in the same world as Amour Amour, it can be read as a standalone and is out January 31st!

‘Laurent of Vere. They say you’re frigid. They say you rebuff all your suitors, that no man has been good enough to prise your legs apart. I believe you thought it would be brutish and physical, and maybe a part of you even wanted it that way. But you and I both know that Damen does not make love like that. He took you slowly. He kissed you until you started to want it.’

Laurent said, ‘Don’t stop on my account.’

‘You let him undress you. You let him put his hands on you. They say you hate Akielons, but you let one into your bed. You weren’t expecting what it felt like when he touched you. You weren’t expecting the weight of his body, how it felt to have his attention, to have him want you.’

‘You left out the part near the end, when it was so good I let myself forget what he’d done.’

W  H  A  T  K  I   N   D   O   F   P   E   R   F   E   C   T   I   O   N …

21786249.gif

This book has completely shredded my heart and probably has ruined anything I attempt to read next.

I want to thank whatever higher being made C.S. Pacat and this series possible.

I’m obviously not going to talk about the plot, because spoilers. I’m just— [insert heavy keysmashing here] I can’t properly form my thoughts about this story through my EXTREMELY OVERLOADED EMOTIONS right now, so here, have a some of my favorite quotes:

He said, into the stillness, ‘I think if I gave you my heart, you would treat it tenderly.

 *collapses*

‘When you make love to me like that, I can’t think.’

‘Don’t think,’ said Damen. Damen saw the flickering change, the tension, as the words provoked an internal battle. Damen said, ‘Don’t think.’

‘Don’t,’ said Laurent, ‘toy with me. I—have not the means to—defend against this.’

‘I don’t toy with you.’ ‘I—’ ‘Don’t think,’ said Damen.

‘Kiss me,’ said Laurent. And then flushed, a rich colour. Don’t think, Damen had said, but Laurent couldn’t do that. Even to sit there after what he had said, he was fighting a battle in his head. The words hung awkwardly, a blurt, but Laurent didn’t take them back, he just waited, his body singing with tension. Instead of leaning in, Damen took Laurent’s hand, brought it towards himself, and kissed his palm, once.

 **I’m choking someone halp**

After a moment, Laurent said, ‘He would have liked you.’
‘Even after I started courting his little brother?’ said Damen carefully.

can you TWO CHILL MY HEART CAN’T HANDLE THIS

‘I would court you,’ said Damen, ‘with all the grace and courtesy that you deserve.’

fucK THERE’S SOMETHING IN MY EYE I’M SO DONE

and even though the ending wasn’t as bloody as I would have liked (what? I’m a prude who likes gore.) I couldn’t have wished for a better ending for these two.

One of the MOST BEAUTIFUL ROMANTIC AMAZING INSANE PERFECT SERIES I HAVE READ.

I’m going to need everyone to read this. Read it. Read it to be stunned, to fall in love, to witness what an incredible series should be.

Prince’s Gambit (Captive Prince #2) by C.S.Pacat – 5 MASSIVE STARS

“It felt, in all the lies between them, as if this was the only true thing.”

Prince’s Gambit (Captive Prince #2) by C.S. Pacat – 5 STARS

6c050-goodreads-button

Do you remember in my review for Captive Prince where I said this book/series may not be for everyone?

Yeah. Scratch that. I take it back.

This series needs to be read by EVERY SINGLE PERSON!

I don’t care if you “don’t do M/M.”

I don’t care if you “don’t like fantasy.”

This series is INSANE. And I mean that in the best way possible.

It has the MOST INTENSE unbearable sexual tension, the most dysfunctional crazy families, brilliant intrigue and war strategy, and one of the most satisfying, mind-blowing, ‘WTF!! HOW?! DOES HE KNOW HE HAS TO KNOW WAIT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN???’ endings.

This book is so much better and so different from the first. And it is just so brilliantly written. I can’t even begin to praise this author for the time and thought it must have taken to weave this delicious and deceptive tale.

“From the severe, straight-backed posture to the impersonal grace of his cupped yellow head; from his detached blue eyes to the arrogance of his cheekbones, Laurent was complicated and contradictory, and Damen could look nowhere else.”

Chapter 19? GOOD LORD I had to go back and read it three times to fully digest the beauty that is that chapter. I didn’t think C.S. Pacat would be able to sell me on Laurent and Damen.  what lies. She didn’t sell me, she blew my head off and obliterated my heart:

“The warm, sweet kiss had been broken in a moment of promise: the first slight parting of lips, the hint that Laurent had been on the cusp of allowing the kiss to deepen, though his body had been singing with tension. When he closed his eyes, he felt how it might have happened: slowly, Laurent’s mouth opening, Laurent’s hands lifting hesitantly to touch his body. He would have been careful, so careful.”

___

‘You want to take me, as a man takes a boy.’
‘As a man takes a man,’ said Damen. ‘I want to take pleasure in you, and to please your body with mine.’ He said it with soft honesty. ‘I want to come inside you.’ The words rose, like this feeling within him. ‘I want you to come in my arms.’
‘You make it sound simple.’
‘It is simple.’

Because those two? That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you do slow burn.

“Stirring drowsily, Laurent shifted a fraction closer and made a soft, unthinking sound of pleasure that Damen was going to remember for the rest of his life.”

And the best part? This second novel has caused me to completely appreciate the first in a way I didn’t think possible. So many things make sense now. So many theories are running through my head. The sometimes extremely brutal violence from book 1 has been replaced with a quick-paced plot filled with betrayal, deception, and battles among an unsure but beautiful romance.

The complexity of these characters and the lies and twists are JUST BEYOND FASCINATING.

READ IT READ IT READ IT!

Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat – what a book!!

Captive Prince (Captive Prince #1) By C.S. Pacat – 4.5 Stars

6c050-goodreads-button

“A golden prince was easy to love if you did not have to watch him picking wings off flies.”

If this book was a person:

1.gif

I mean. This book was full of depravity and brutality and cunning characters. And just plain ol’fucked up.

And what’s worse?

I enjoyed it. A lot.

2.gif

And at times, it was even quite funny. I laughed. Some parts were so twisted I really just couldn’t help myself.

3.gif

Let’s get something straight. I don’t enjoy the topics of slavery, torture, rape, sadism. In spite of my sometimes awful potty mouth, I’m a little bit of a prude. *winks*. So I was kind of nervous to read a story that has the reputation this book has.

But..this author. She took some really awful topics, some downright shitty characters, and made them so freaking engaging and interesting that I COULD NOT PUT THIS DOWN.

Quick summary: Damen, Prince of Akielos, is betrayed by his half brother and sold to the enemy land of Vere. Once there, he’s forced to act as a slave to the revenge thirsty, sadistic Prince Laurent who hates Damen’s country and everything it stands for.

Laurent. Oh, Laurent. I was so excited to meet this character dubbed as one of the most evil characters out there. And he did not disappoint. I could use so many words to describe him: Asshole. Sadisitic. Viscous. Calculating. OUT OF HIS FUCKING MIND. But the fact that I actually grew to LIKE Laurent is really just a testament to the author’s clever and impressive writing skills.

‘I can end this any time I like?’ said Laurent. ‘I haven’t even begun.’

What happens after, I won’t get into. But Captive Prince clearly sets the foundation for the books to come. The relationship between Laurent and Damen, the fantastic writing, and all of the political intrigue left me wanting MORE, so I’m off to read book two like right this second!

**I clearly enjoyed this, but I’m fully aware this book isn’t for everyone. The writing is fantastic,(really. You can claim the events in this are horrid, and I’ll agree. But no-one can say this woman’s writing is not beyond. This review explains it so perfectly.) I can see how it would be hard far some to follow, especially with the many difficult names and characters that are introduced. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone sensitive to or uncomfortable with upsetting stories and non-consensual sexual encounters. Also, this is categorized as romance, but there wasn’t any in this installment. Don’t go into this one expecting any sort of lovey dovey feelings, because you won’t be getting any. It’s clear there will be romance in the upcoming books, though, and I CAN’T WAIT to see how that unfolds.

LOVED Menace (Scarlet Scars #1) by JM Darhower

Menace (Scarlet Scars #1) by JM Darhower – 4.5 Stars

6c050-goodreads-button

I, Steph, am in love with a gun wielding murdering sociopath named Lorenzo and I regret nothing. I want to have his psychotic babies even though he claims to not want children. I’ll make him change his mind. I will.

Not sure who Lorenzo is? I’ll remind you. For those who read the Monster In His Eyes trilogy (and if you haven’t don’t even talk to me you until you do – you need to get your life right), Lorenzo is a character from Target On Our Backs. He’s a little testy. A little crazy.

“Tell your boss he can suck my cock,” I say, shoving my chair back to stand up. “If he does a good enough job, maybe I won’t blow his fucking brains out for calling me a thief.”

And a whole lot of fun to read about.

Swinging the spatula, he smacks Leo in the head, the loud thwack echoing though the kitchen.

“Shit!” Leo winces, “What the hell was that for?”
“The table isn’t set,” Lorenzo says. “What are we, animals?”

…this coming from a man who shot someone in the face with zero hesitation for not listening to an order. Am I sick to love him? Maybe. But I don’t care.

21651554

When Menace starts, Lorenzo is basically running the crime scene in New York and bored of the every day crap he deals with. Enter Morgan / Scarlet. She’s fiery and feisty and brings some color into Lorenzo’s life. But she has one hell of a shitty past.

“I yearn to mean something.
Do you know what that’s like?
To know you’re poison but still be desperate for someone to sip from you anyway?”

Andddd that’s all you’ll get on the plot from me. Don’t won’t to spoil a single thing about this story.

Scarlet is a character who actually took me by surprise. I actually wasn’t expecting to like her all that much. But boy was I wrong. She was an incredible, resilient, tough girl and I LOVED her even more than I thought possible at the end.

And Lorenzo, well I think I’ve made it pretty clear how much I love him. He’s so much more than you think he will be. Him and Scarlet together were everything.

“His lips are the softest thing about him, warm and gentle, like a slice of heaven wrapped in hell, so worth battling the flames to feel his fire.”

21651555.gif

You know what I love about JM’s stories? As soon as you think you know what’s happening or which way the story is going to go, she flips the switch and turns everything on its head and you’re left a little speechless.

And she also creates delicious murderous men who make me want to be a mob wife (but that’s besides the point).

The point is this story is another of hers that has topped my favorites list and book 2 Grievous (out in February) cannot come soon enough. I need MORE LORENZO IN MY LIFE!

Menace is out tomorrow!

Unpopular Opinion Book Tag :)

5ab865d4-e4c9-4a5e-8b6e-20953dfb8f3d_zpsffe5tl1g

Saw this one and just had to do it 🙂 I tag anyone who wants to join!

*and just a friendly reminder. These are MY opinions and are not meant to offend. If you don’t agree, well, feel free to write an unpopular opinion post of your own =D

A popular book or series that you didn’t like

Oh man. We could be here all day. But I’ll only name a few:

Price of a Kiss (Forbidden Men #1) by Linda Kage

Thoughtless Series by S.C. Stephens

Bossman by Vi Keeland

Sparrow by L.J. Shen

A popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love

I love me some Father Bell from Priest and anyone who doesn’t can leave this page right this second 😉

A popular book genre that you hardly reach for

Historical Romance. Not sure why but I have never had the urge to read this genre.

leo-decaprio-shoulder-shrug_zps50txmixs.gif

A popular or beloved character that you do not like

Jared Trent (from Bully by Penelope Douglas). There’s lovable asshole, and then there’s shithead. And you Jared, are a shithead.

A popular author that you can’t seem to get into

Tillie Cole and Penny Reid. And before all the pitchforks come out let me explain. I feel like every story in Tillie’s series are SO similar. And her romance is too cheesy for my taste. I used to adore her books, but my tastes have most definitely changed. And to me, both authors’ writing tends to be really repetitive (though I do enjoy the premise of Penny’s books. I just can’t get passed her writing style.)

A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing

Anything involving a billionaire.

And while we’re at it, I’m also tired of:

*Words/Phrases using any combination of the following:
I own you.
She owns me.
OWN.
You’re mine.
That pussy is mine.
MINE.
He’s touched my soul.
He is my soul.
SOUL.

*Men who won’t , sorry, “can’t”, do relationships because of a fucked up past. Go see a therapist, would you?

*Half naked men on book covers. I can’t be the only person who doesn’t give a shit about seeing abs anymore.

*Reviews that OMG! and GAH! and squee and squawk or anything else sounding like that.
raw_zpsbtvi2urz.gif

A popular series that you have no interest in reading

Black Lotus Series by EK Blair.

Read the first book. Did not like it. No desire to read the rest.

The saying goes “The book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

The Notebook and Fifty Shades. I know I know, how cliché. But I just love me some Ryan Gosling. And don’t even GET ME STARTED on Jamie Dornan.

That man.

Truth or Beard by Penny Reid – 3 stars

6c050-goodreads-button

Can somebody please tell me where I can find me a Duane Winston of my own? Because I’d like me one of those, stat.

Things I loved about this book:

1. Duane Winston
2. Cletus and his sausage
3. Duane Winston
4. The Winston Brothers
5. Duane Winston

I think I’ve made it quite clear I kind of love Duane Winston, no?

Though I didn’t quite get Jessica, her and Duane together were pretty adorable.

So …why not 5 stars? While I loved Duane and the Winston boys (obviously), the writing in this was pretty verbose and could be really repetitive, which is something I always pick up on when I read and can be annoying for me. There was also a lot of inner monologue and filler I could have done without, along with the contrived drama. And I kind of wish we got to see a little more of their argumentative banter in the beginning because I find that so entertaining. They realize their feelings for one another very quickly, so I think if we got a little more resistance in the beginning it would have felt a little more realistic.

All in all a sweet read, but with some things I could have done without.

MENACE

(Scarlet Scars Book One)
Dark Romance
J.M. Darhower
Release Date: January 16th
Scarlet Scars is a two-book series.
GRIEVOUS (Scarlet Scars Book Two) will release February 6th.
***Scarlet Scars contains dark elements that some readers may

find disturbing*** <–HELL YES BTW!

***Synopsis***
Once upon a time, there was a guy who got so fed up with life that he resorted to murder and mayhem just to feel alive.
Lorenzo Gambini is bored. So fucking bored. Most people either annoy him or avoid him, afraid to face him. Figuratively. Literally. With his face partially disfigured, scarred, he looks every bit the monster the stories make him out to be: the notorious menace they call Scar. They say he’s a sociopath. Maybe he’s a psychopath. Whatever path he’s on, people tend to stay far away from it.
Until one day, a young woman bumps right into him—a woman just as fed up with life, but for much different reasons. With a Scarlet Letter inked on her wrist and secrets buried deep in her soul, Morgan Myers is running from something… or maybe somebody. Lorenzo isn’t quite sure.

You can bet your ass he’s going to figure it out, though.

About the Author
J.M.Darhower is the USA Today Bestselling Author of
paranormal/erotic/romantic suspense novels about the baddest bad boys and the
ladies who love them. Fangirl at heart, J.M. is obsessed with books, music, and
all things Marvel, especially the glorious Sebastian Stan. She spends her days
in a tiny town in North Carolina, churning out words and chasing down Pokémon.

*For those who may not know, the hero in Menace, Lorenzo, is a side character from Target On Our Backs (Monster In His Eyes #3). Menace can be read without reading Monster In His Eyes first, but I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend reading the trilogy. It remains one of my top favorites EVER!
