5 HUGE STARS for Some Kind Of Perfect by Krista & Becca Ritchie

I think Krista & Becca were going for the record for “most tears shed while reading a book.’ And if they were, they’ve succeeded.

My god, my eyes are still red from all the crying I did while reading this beautiful, heartfelt, magical book.

I read in the acknowledgments that if you’ve read all of the Addicted Series, you’ve read over one million of Krista & Becca’s words. ONE MILLION. And even with that, for me it’ll never be enough. This is one series that will forever stay with me. Lo and Lily, Connor and Rose, and Ryke and Daisy have become characters so ingrained in my heart. I love everything about this series, and I am so so sad that we have to say goodbye.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. THIS is the series everyone needs to be reading.

“Look how far we’ve come. Look at us now. Ache for ache. Smile for smile. I only ever wanted to live this life with her. – Lo

I cannot stress enough how unique and amazing the writing is, and how this has made me feel these fictional characters were real life people who have buried themselves in my heart and who I would love to be friends with. With Krista & Becca’s writing, you feel all of the characters’ pain, the joy, the love; their highest of highs and their lowest of lows.

“I want her in my fucking arms. To hold her and kiss her and just fucking love her. These sentiments never recede. Never end.” – Ryke

So I leave with this…give this series a chance. I know it’s long. I know there’s a lot of books. But you will not regret one minute of it. I found myself completely immersed in the world they’ve built and wishing that I could spend an eternity with these characters.

“I never looked back in that way before, but for the very first time, I did. I looked back, and I only looked back at her.” – Connor

Just absolute perfection & I simply cannot recommend this series enough!

The Bird and The Sword by Amy Harmon. Read it. Now.

“You are a dangerous little bird. But I think I will keep you.”

The Bird and The Sword by Amy Harmon – 5 Stars

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL STORY!!

Without revealing too much, it’ll be hard to go into the plot of this story and what it’s all about, so I won’t say much. And as always, when I read an incredible book it’s so hard to do the book justice and convey just how epic the story was with my words.

But I can say Amy’s writing is nothing short of magical, and I was immediately swept up into the story of Lark and Tiras. And on top of the beautiful romance, there was mystery, intrigue, and an elaborate plot that kept me completely immersed from start to finish.

Everything about this was original, poignant, and brilliant. And while there is very little sex, this story was oozing with sensuality and romance. The story of Lark and Tiras is one I will not forget and probably one of the most romantic stories I have come across.

“Yearning. There it was again. Suddenly yearning had a flavor. It tasted like a king, a beautiful, frightening, infuriating man who flew into my life and began to free my words.”

There were SO MANY lines and passages I just had to highlight and wish I could share here. But then this review would be insanely long and you should be reading the book and experiencing it for yourself.

“You are easy to overlook. Slim and pale and so quiet. But now that I’ve studied your soft grey eyes and traced the fine bones of your face, now that I’ve kissed your pale pink mouth, I don’t want to look anywhere else. My gaze is continually drawn back to you.”

I know this is fantasy and a lot of people shy away from this genre. But DO NOT let that dissuade you from picking this up. Trust me when I tell you ANYONE that likes romance NEEDS to read this story.

“I have loved you every moment of every day, and I will love you until I cease to be. Bird, man, or king, I love you, and I will always love you.”

Put simply, this was stunning. And I cannot recommend it enough.

Addicted Series (by krista & becca ritchie) LOVEFEST!

untitledgs

Today is a very special day. Today is the day to celebrate love for the Addicted Series by Krista & Becca Ritchie!

If you’ve read the Addicted Series, you know what an all around PHENOMENAL series it is. And with the newest and last book Some Kind Of Perfect releasing on May 20th, today we’re spreading love for this series.

I am absolutely, irrevocably, and insanely in love with the stories and writing, with the entire cast, with the whole series.

It’s SO original, so refreshing, so funny, so sexy and heartbreaking and emotional. NO ONE writes family and friend dynamics quite like these two. It truly has one of THE best ensemble casts I’ve ever read. The character dynamics are just amazing and the dialogue is fantastic. Every little interaction between the cast just shines.

It’s truly one of a kind. There is nothing else even remotely close to this out there.

THIS is a series everyone should experience. I cannot praise these authors enough.

Loved Loved *Amour Amour* by Krista & Becca Ritchie

9CBD3472-AFBF-4C96-931A-8CE3CC60CED9_zpsasfb3vm0

Amour Amour By Krista & Becca Ritchie – 4.5 stars

“But I’ve found the truest form of love. It’s two loves that can live in perfect harmony. The circus and you,” he whispers, “amour amour.”

Two loves. Two passions. At perfect balance.

Amour Amour was such a wonderful and unique story! It’s a story about following your dreams no matter what, finding love, and discovering yourself.

Thora James is a gymnast and has left everything behind. Her family, her friends, her scholarship. All to pursue her dreams of joining an aerial circus act. This leads her to Vegas to audition for a hit show called Amour and is where she meets the show’s star Nikolai Kotova. And what an interesting first meeting that was.

“If his eyes are hell, his tongue is heaven, and I would gladly return.”

Nikolai and Thora train together, and eventually fall for one another. As someone who has been insecure for a lot of her life, being with Nikolai and his brothers and sister who are also in the circus shows Thora what it’s like to gain confidence and become part of a family where passion and love are front and center.

I LOVED Nikolai and his relationship with Thora. Talk about the PERFECT MAN.

When his humor fades, what remains is longing. In deep Russian, he whispers a phrase I’ve only heard once before.

“What does that mean?” I ask, my pulse beginning to race again as I catch certain words.

“Here is my heart.” His thumb skims my neck. “It is full of love.”

The other characters, especially Timo and John (!!!), stole the show for me. I was salivating for more scenes from them and when I got them, I didn’t want them to end. I cannot wait for Luka’s book Infini. His rebel ways were so intriguing and no doubt will make for a crazy entertaining book.

If you’ve yet to read a book from these authors (and you should read their books like NOW), this is a great addition to the wonderful worlds they have created. No one writes family and friend dynamics quite like Krista and Becca. Their characters always feel so REAL. It’s something that is hard to describe unless you have experienced the magic that is their books. And if you have, you most definitely know what I mean. If you are already a fan of them (because how could you not be?!) then I know you will just love Amour Amour, Nikolai and Thora, and the rest of the incredible characters.

“It’s a dream that I’m living. Every day. With him.”

5 Massive Stars for Behind The Hands That Kill by JA Redermski

Behind The Hands That Kill (In The Company Of Killers #6) by JA Redmerski – 5 Stars

I’m not really sure how I can write a review on this without spoiling a single thing. So I will stay away from major plot points and just gush about how fan-freaking-tastic the latest book from the In the Company Of Killers series was.

Behind The Hands that Kill picks up right where The Black Wolf left off. And after getting a lot of questions brought out from The Black Wolf answered, about 465 more have come up after finishing this book. I again don’t want to spoil a single thing so I won’t say a word on what happens. But I will say this was SO much more than what the blurb lets on. It’s a surprise-filled, angsty rollercoaster from the start and I wish I could experience it all over again!

I’m pretty good at guessing plot twists. Actually, I’m great at it. But with this series JA Redmerski never fails to shock the shit out of me. I gasped countless times and didn’t see mostly any of it coming. THAT is HUGE to me. My head is still spinning with all the things that happened and I can’t even imagine what’s to come.

19058300._SY540_.jpg

This series is one of the BEST series I have ever come across. JA Redmerski never ceases to AMAZE ME, every single time, with every single book. Every installment in this series is so worth waiting for. I really can’t get over her genius creativity and what it must take to come up with and keep track of it all. This is also one of those series where I completely trust where JA is taking us. I just KNOW each book will continue to top the last.

Also a nice little treat for fans of the series – JA give fans a glimpse into the next 4 books in the series and what their titles will be! (No release dates though. BOO.)

PS. JA if you happen to be reading this, I will give you my first born to get my hands on any of those upcoming books early. Seriously, it’s yours. JUST GIVE ME THOSE DAMN BOOKS.

Anyone who has read this series, read this book ASAP. Anyone who hasn’t picked up this series yet, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?! Trust me when I say you’re missing out.

Behind The Hands That Kill was absolutely incredible and I am already counting down the days we can get the next book.

Unpopular Opinion Alert: Review of Nuts by Alice Clayton

19061194.gif

Nuts by Alice Clayton – 1.5 Stars

What a shame because I absolutely LOVED Wallbanger and thought I would love this for sure. But too many things starting really early on turned me off to this.

What didn’t work:

The first 30% or so was rather dull. It was filled with paragraph after paragraph that depicted absolutely nothing of importance. And I could have done without the excessive detailed food descriptions too. I know Roxie’s a chef and that is a big part of her character but it became too much and was distracting.

An example:

Each booth had the farm’s name proudly displayed over it’s table, which dispalyed whatever they were producing. Late spring greens everywhere, turnip and mustard greens the most prominent. Lettuce of all varieties. Carrots in a riot of colors, not just orange – ruby red, purple, and vibrant yellow carrots spilled over their baskets and into customer’s waiting hands. One farmer had plates of sliced fresh radish set out, with piles of coarse salt and soft butter ready for dipping. Root vegetables, spring onion, garlic, and garlic scapes, that wonderful delectable that was only available in late spring. Asparagus stalks, thin and….

OK, I can’t type about vegetables anymore. Was all that detail really necessary? I don’t see how that added to the story at all. And that wasn’t the only moment of excessive detail I had to skim over. It was happening repeatedly.

The heroine seemed a little too pretentious and snotty for my liking. The humor really came off as forced to me and had too many instances of accidental / humiliating run-ins. Sure a few moments had me grinning, but not out right laughing like I was expecting.

I was looking for a fun, easy read that would make me laugh, but instead I found myself skimming, rolling my eyes, and was tired of the overlong descriptions and not a whole lot else happening.

I wanted more substance to the story and found it lacking. All in all this was a disappointing read for me. 😦

Whisper To Me by Nick Lake: Such a unique and amazing story!

18924953._SY540_.jpg

Whisper To Me by Nick Lake – 4.5 Stars

Wowza. I can definitely say I have never read a story like this one before. The way this starts off is I think the best intro to a book I have ever read:

“These are the things that you need to know:

1. I hear voices.

2. I miss you.

3. I wish I could take back what I did to you.

4. What they said in the news, what they said I did. It’s not true. You don’t have to worry about that.

5. I’m going to write it all down, all about Paris and why I broke your heart, and then I’m going to e-mail it to you. It will take you, I don’t know, a couple of days to read. So I will be waiting for you at 5:00 p.m. Friday by the windmill hole of Pirate Golf on Pier One, where we played that one time.

If you forgive me, when you’re done reading this, come and get me. Okay? Think of this as the most screwed-up love letter ever. I hope you come. That isn’t a thing you need to know, it’s just true. I hope you do. I hope that when you’ve read this, you’ll understand why I did what I did.”

Does that not just suck you in? The whole book is essentially an apology letter from Cassie, trying to explain all her actions and get the boy she hurt to forgive her. But for what, we don’t know.

I must say, the cover of this fooled me a bit. I was expecting a light YA love story. But the topics discussed in here are so much deeper than that. There’s a range of everything in here: friendship, mental illness, death, love – all combined in a coming of age story that will lead readers into a murder mystery along the way. Sounds crazy, I know. But it was wildly entertaining and so brilliantly written.

Maybe it’s the way the story is told or maybe it was because I was dying to get answers, but I COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN and I read this in record time. I HAD to know what happened to Cassie, what led to her “betrayal,” why she was hearing a voice, how it would all end.

Even hours after I finished, I was STILL thinking about this book. How unique this story was, and how the author just got it all so RIGHT. So many times I read something Cassie thought and said “Wow. Yes. That is so accurate. Yes, I have thought this. YES, I UNDERSTAND.”

Throughout this, there were times I wanted to cry. There were times I did cry (and I rarely ever cry). There were times I wanted to just jump in the pages and hug Cassie. There were times I wanted to jump in the pages and just slap her for being so foolish. Some of her thoughts just got me so emotional I had to stop to take a breather.

“I was shining. Light was blazing from my every pore. My eyes were closed, and the strip lights were turning the inside of my eyelids red, everything red. That’s your color, you know, the one I see and feel when I think of you. Emotions are always associated with colors, aren’t they? Green with envy. Well, when you are in my head you are always there with red: sunlight, warmth, heat.

People are green with envy.

Yellow with cowardice.

I am red with you.”

God that line!

I wanted her to stop being so hurt and blaming herself for things she couldn’t control. I wanted more of her and the mystery boy together. Their awkward encounters were so perfect. BUT MOST OF ALL, I just wanted her to be happy!

“But now I want to be a real girl, not just a voice, I want my body back, and I want you to be the one to hold it; I want to hear my name on your lips. I want you to be the one to whisper to me.”

I do want to point out that I don’t think this book is for everyone. Not because I didn’t love it or because it was lacking in any way. But this is so character driven and focuses so much on the characters and much less on the plot, and I know not everyone is a fan of these types of books.

Personally, my only critique is …

*slight spoiler below*

THAT ENDING! Jesus Christ. I almost threw my kindle across the room. I got zero closure from that. I know this is personal preference, but I really do hate ambiguous endings. After all the reader goes through with Cassie, I just needed to know if he forgave her! Are they together? Did he meet her? WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?!?

This really was a truly unique and heart wrenching story. And one I won’t forget any time soon.

Whisper To Me is out now!
